Spring is a great time to start composting and get into the garden as the weather starts to improve.  why waste your time and money going down to the DIY store to purchase compost for your plastic raised beds and plastic planters, when you can make your own in no time.

You can give home composting a try by recycling your kitchen waste. More than one third of the average black waste bin can be composted, not to mention all the garden waste. Yet many people still don’t know how simple home composting is to do.

 Home composting is still one of the best ways to help the environment every day, and is a habit that can be quickly built into your regular kitchen and garden habits. For example its not just grass cuttings that can go into your compost bin: you can also add scrunched up cardboard, teabags vegetable peelings and coffee granules –   even shredded confidential documents, don’t worry worms still can’t read.

At the height of summer my recycled plastic compost tumbler churns out compost every 3 weeks. To order a compost tumbler which is the quickest and most efficient way to produce home compost contact Kedel Ltd on 01282 861325.

Composting is a natural process that transforms your kitchen and garden waste into valuable food and nutrients for your garden. Its great for using on plastic flower beds, vegetable plots, plastic raised beds and for mixing into recycled plastic planters and can really make your garden bloom.

Recycled Plastic Processing

There are a number of ways recycled plastic can be made. Plastics can be:

Reused

Certain plastics can be reused, for example:

  • Plastic Drinks Bottles
  • Carrier Bags
  • Takeaway Containers

Collected

92% of all UK local authorities now offer collection facilities for plastic bottles either from your kerbside collection scheme or at recycling centres.

What about other plastics?

WRAP has recently completed a study that has demonstated mixed plastics packaging (trays, tubs, pots, films etc) can be mechanically recycled and that it is both economically and environmentally effective to do so.  Further work is being conducted in this area and it it hoped that the UK will have comprehensive infrastructure for the collection, sorting and reprocessing of these valuable resources in the UK in the near future.

The process

Mechanical recycling is the process of recycling plastics by:

  • sorting;
  • shredding;
  • washing;
  • melting;
  • pelletise.

It is a two-stage process:

  • Sorting is mainly done automatically with a manual polish;
  • Plastic is either melted down directly and moulded into a new shape, or shredded into flakes then melted down before being processed into recycled plastic lumber

See below or see here http://www.articlesbase.com/environment-articles/compost-tumblers-made-from-recycled-plastic-are-the-best-1937596.html

Composting is a difficult task, every gardener knows this. It can require alot of work. But if you have a compost tumbler, its a different story.
Years and years ago, before your great great grandfather was a boy, the way in which compost was made was to create small hill like structures. Manual labour was needed to keep churning the pile, turning over and over the rotting recipe trapped inside. The elements played a part, such as the sun and the wind to aerate and heat the pile. But the greater demand came from the interaction of humans themselves, much hard work was required to create the final compost product.

In this day and age, we have better understanding of the process of organic breakdown. The best compost tumblers today do everything for us and simplify it. In a compost tumbler the ingredients are broken down quicker because the flow of air is greater. Decomposition is governed by the amount of aeration inside the compost tumbler. It is also enclosed in a container, trapping heat and inturn, helping the centre of the mixture warm up. Which of course aggravates the breakdown further.

Selecting the correct compost tumbler for you can be confusing, when there are so many on offer. But first think….what type of tumbler do I need? Well that is simple! The best compost tumbler is a rotating compost tumbler, but it doesn’t stop there. A recycled plastic rotating compost tumbler not only provides you with the additional factor of helping the environment, they also hold the same properties as virgin plastic and thats definatley a bonus for the longevity of your purchase.

The use of a recycled plastic compost tumbler is simple. the only thing you need to do is turn it, so many times once a day will suffice. Although this will change slightly, depending upon the compost tumbler you decide to choose. Additional ingredients can also be added to the mixture to further decrease the productivity timescale.

If your keen in making good compost and want to help the environment at the same time, then buy a recycled rotating compost tumbler. Here are some of the main beneficial attributes relating to the modern day compost tumbler.

  • Plastic takes a long time to degrade, buy purchasing the best compost tumbler made from recycled plastic, you are helping to stop unwanted plastic going to waste.
  • Recycled plastic holds the same properties as virgin plastic and is virually resistant to erosion.
  • Compost can be made in 4-5 weeks in a rotating version compared to conventional compost tumblers which take anything upto nine months.
  • The choice of colour for your compost tumbler is determined in the manufacturing phase, therefore eliminating the need to paint it. Recycled plastic compost tumblers come in a wide variety of colours.

I have outlined only a few of the benefits of choosing a recycled plastic rotating compost bin. And this is what makes them significantly better in everyway.  So please spare a thought before choosing the right one for you and think about the benefits, you can make a hell of alot of compost and even better it helps the environment.
